Just a reminder that the final exam is Wednesday, June 5 during 1st block. I will be collecting your exam review sheet as a grade so please have it finished when you arrive to class. In case you are struggling with this, click here to access the answer key.
Also, we will be walking down to Tesa Tape on Thursday to check out the chemical facilities within the plant. In order to go, you must have a signed permission slip to Mr. Landry by the date of the trip. Please dress accordingly as we will be walking rain or shine.

Formal Labs Due Wednesday
I'm posting again to remind everybody about your formal labs. I just went through the ones that most of you shared with me and I see many missing pieces in your papers (in fact, they were more blank than they were completed). It appears to me that most of you have much work to do on these so please get this taken care of within the next couple of days. Also, there will not be any more time given in class to work on these. Good luck.

You can use the posting feature to post questions and be able to discuss them with classmates and myself as well.
Additionally, connect with me on Twitter to get blog updates @mrlandryshs.

Unit One Help
Unit one is a big hodge-podge of various topics that will be discussed throughout the semester. As a result, I understand if there is some confusion and people are slightly lost with some of the stuff we have covered (like scientific notations and significant figures). Because of this, I put together the following play list to help fill in some of the knowledge gaps that may exist.

Formal Lab Time
Its already that time everyone. The identification of an unknown metal lab has been assigned. You will have the rest of this week and parts of next week to work on collecting data and setting up your report. The first submission is due on March 12, 2013 and the final end date for this lab will be March 27, 2013 (subject to change if needed).
Once your lab is turned in, I will grade it and give you suggestions for how to improve your report. I will then return it to you and you can make the suggested changes and turn the lab back in for a better grade. We will continue to do this back and forth thing until the final due date. Whatever your grade is after that final submission will become your grade for the lab. I will not make grades "active" until after the final submission (they will be put in Power school prior to this, but won't count towards your overall grade).
In order to help guide you with writing the lab, I've put together a template in google docs that you can make a copy of and use for your report. In order to save this document, you must be signed into your google account (look for your user name in the upper right hand corner). Then select File, make a copy, and follow the prompts. If you'd prefer to just download the form as a Word document, you can select File, download as, and then select Microsoft Word.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Good luck.

Welcome to Chemistry Class
Welcome everybody to the wonderful world of chemistry. You are about to embark on an exciting journey into the study of matter and its interactions, or in other words its the study of stuff and why that stuff acts the way that it does (but its not quite that simple :) See the bottom of this post for more information.
Please subscribe to this site as I will be posting class information here often, including links to class assignments like google docs, embedded videos, simulations, etc. The best way to subscribe is to subscribe by email. Also, please familiarize yourself with all of the links to the right as they will all be extremely helpful in your studies.
In order to be successful in this class, you must apply yourself. If you plan on just sitting back and coasting through, then you are in for a rude awakening (and most likely an F in the course). This class will challenge you, but that's part of what makes it a great class. If at any point you feel that you are struggling, please take advantage of the resources that I have available that are linked to this site, including the learn site that will have all of the notes, assignments, investigations, reviews, etc. attached to it. Additionally, don't hesitate to contact me at any time if you have a question (except after 9:30pm as that is when I usually pumpkin out).
You first four assignments are as follows:
Rather than trying to explain what chemistry is any further, check out this prezi that explains it pretty well.

- Complete the Quality Inventory Sheet for your textbook. Do not use the scroll wheel on your mouse as it might mess up the columns - I'm not sure why (due Thursday)
- Parent letter / syllabus contract (due Thursday). This will be posted on http://learn.spartaschools.org site
- "I Wanna Talk About Me" letter (due Friday). This will be posted on http://learn.spartaschools.org site
